ENCOUNTER EDITORIAL

This is a Vancouver Canada based collaborative shoot between artists/fashion designers PatternNation and Sleepless Mindz with street style photographer Russell Telen. Brotha Jason founder of Sleepless Mindz and Cydney Eva founder of PatternNation have been working together on projects, performances, events, shoots and films for the last 5 years. Their shared passion for 90’s aesthetic, exploration of the imagination and bright bold patterns and colours have brought them together again to produce this shoot featuring models Brotha Jason and his partner Marisa Gold who is a classically trained dancer as well as being deeply involved with Sleepless Mindz. As a pattern muralist, and installation artist Cydney Eva worked with Brotha Jason to merge her use of patterns with his iconic clouds to create this backdrop exclusively for the shoot. Russell Telen came on the project as a skilled up and coming street style photographer and brought his unique eye and bold photography style to complete the collaboration.

This piece represents the energy of breaking free from the norm, making leaps to be different and fearless choices to be yourself. Having the bravery to carve your own path means embracing your purpose. Many of us dream with our eyes closed but were tired of being asleep. We dream with our eyes open as we turn our thoughts into manifestations through our art, esthetic and collaborations. This project was a beautiful culmination of new and old friends who have one purpose. To dream with our eyes open and live the life of our dreams which can often be one of the scariest things to do.
