This is the Art - Open Mic

Due to the success of our first 'This is The Art' open mic we are making it a monthly event!

The debut show was full of wild and wonderful talent, from experimentation to expertise, and from idiocracy to sacred rage. If you have been holding in something that needs to come out, now is the time.

‘This Is The Art’ is an open mic night for anyone with something to express. From musicians sharing original songs to comedians, storytellers, poets, spoken word artists, rappers, improvisers, and more — this evening is a container for all who feel moved to shine their light. Bring your weird and wonderful art form. Come to perform, or simply to witness. All expressions are welcome. This is collective resonance.

This is the art.

Hosted by Mend the Spirit (Bri), the night begins with sign-ups at 7:00 PM, and performances run from 8:00–11:00 PM. Stay from start to finish to experience the evening’s headlining performance — a special closing set by Costa Besta.

Enabling Arts operates on the unceded and traditional Coast Salish lands of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh, and šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmaɁɬ təməxʷ Nations. We offer gratitude to the stewards of these lands and acknowledge our responsibility to hold creative spaces with care and respect.

Slow Fashion Fair

A one-of-a-kind gathering for changemakers, creatives, and anyone who believes fashion can be a force for good.

Think: the colour, chaos, and community of your favourite thrift store, dropped right into the heart of downtown Vancouver. Whether you’re deep in the sustainable fashion world or just starting to explore it, this is your space to show up, connect, and be inspired.

Here’s what’s in store:

  • Clothing swap with Alterna.te

  • Mending circle

  • Slay Fit Challenge plus prizes

  • Photo booth

  • Career Fair

  • Panel discussion

  • Keynote from Pattern Nation

  • Snacks + coffee

We’re bringing together changemakers, creatives, and community — alongside our incredible collaborators Fashion Revolution, Alterna.te, and more. This is a rare chance to network with leaders and industry professionals in the sustainable fashion space, learn from people doing the work, and show up as your most authentic self.

Speakers and Panelists

The event features an impressive roster of speakers and panelists from across the sustainable fashion ecosystem. Keynote speaker Cyd of Pattern Nation, an artist, facilitator and small business owner, will open the afternoon. The panel discussion will include Karen Storry, Senior Engineer at Metro Vancouver; Madeline Shaw, a Sustainable Designer and Social Entrepreneur alongside other industry professionals. The panel will be moderated by Namrita Lamba, Environmental Consultant and representative of Fashion Revolution Canada. Closing remarks will be delivered by Fer Sauvage of alternaTe.

Collaborators and Exhibitors

The Fair will feature exhibitor booths from organizations at the forefront of sustainable fashion and the circular economy, including: City of Richmond, Cust.ooo, Fashion Revolution Canada, Fashion Takes Action, and Our Social Fabric. Event collaborators and facilitators include alternaTe and Repar.ia, who will host the clothing swap and mending café.

A 𝐫𝐡𝐢𝐳𝐨𝐦𝐞 is an underground plant stem that grows horizontally and spreads by sending out roots and shoots.t’s a symbol of connection, growth, and endless possibilities. 🌍 Just like an underground root system, it spreads horizontally, branching out in all directions, forming a decentralized network.
In the world of ideas, philosophers Deleuze & Guattari use the rhizome to describe a way of thinking that’s fluid, non-hierarchical, and full of multiplicity. It‘s all about breaking free from linear thinking and embracing the flow of knowledge and connections. 🌿

For this jam, we invite you to trace back to your root — and grow together. 🌱 Let’s connect through our rhizomes, embracing the beauty of shared ideas, diversity, and infinite paths.
